Tesla and XPEL have a business partnership — XPEL is presented as an option inside the Tesla app. Like all business partnerships, that's a deal between two companies, not a third-party quality ranking.
When we compare spec sheets, XPEL's published performance data uses different testing standards than the US-market films we work with — which makes a clean side-by-side comparison murky. In our experience installing both films, we haven't seen XPEL outperform the Llumar PPF we use on the metrics that matter day to day: clarity, self-healing, yellowing resistance, warranty. Comparable quality range, premium pricing.
As Tesla owners ourselves, we don't believe XPEL is mandatory. XPEL is in the Tesla app because of a partnership between two companies — not because it's the only film worth considering for your car.
PPF for Your Tesla's Front.
Tesla front bumpers sit low and forward. On the 91, the 5, and the 405, that geometry catches rock chips on every commute. Compounded over a few years, you get the cratered front clip you've seen on a black Model 3. PPF is the only fix — applied before the damage starts.
The Tesla Baseline.
Bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, headlights. The minimum we recommend for every Tesla — covers where 90%+ of rock chips actually land. Self-healing topcoat fills minor swirls in the sun.
Every Painted Panel.
Every painted panel wrapped — front, sides, doors, rear quarters, trunk. Total paint protection. The right call for long-term ownership, dark colors that show every chip, or high-mileage SoCal commuters.
Our Recommendation: Full Front is enough for most Teslas. Step up to Full Vehicle if you commute long highway miles, drive a darker color that shows every chip, or plan to keep the car 5+ years. Tesla- specific templates are pre-loaded in our plotter either way.

Tesla-Specific Answers.
California-legal: 70% VLT on front sides. For rear sides and back glass we recommend 20% (factory rear glass is already ~30–35% VLT). IRX ceramic or CTX tier is ideal — it rejects 90%+ of infrared without affecting Autopilot cameras or cellular signal.
No — we use metal-free ceramic films (Phantom S5, CTX, IRX) that don't block radar, LiDAR, or cellular signals. We also avoid overlapping any B-pillar camera or sentry-mode lens area.
Yes. The panoramic glass roof runs 15°F+ hotter than a conventional roof in summer. We apply Llumar IRX (or AIR 80 at 77% VLT for near-clear) to reject heat while preserving the open-sky aesthetic. Install time: ~90 minutes.
Full Front at minimum — Teslas have low bumpers that catch rock chips on the 91/5/405. For Performance and Plaid owners we recommend extending coverage to rocker panels and the roof leading edge. Tesla-specific templates are pre-loaded in our plotter.
Tint + glass roof: 1 business day. Add Full Front PPF: 2–3 days total. We block your vehicle from the delivery bay so factory condition is preserved through install.
